We used two negative control groups, either injected with sterile PBS or left uninfected, and a positive control group injected with untreated K. pneumoniae. We injected metformin, NAC, and secnidazole-treated K. pneumoniae into three test groups. Mice were observed every day for three days using the Kaplan–Meier method, GraphPad Prism 8. All mice in the negative control groups survived, while only 20% of mice in the positive control group did. Metformin in sub-MIC protected 6 mice, conferring 60% protection. 6 mice survived.
