The effect of exogenously added pyruvate on the growth of S. mutans wild-type and ΔlrgAB strains. Wildtype (a) and ΔlrgAB mutant (b) were each grown in a low-glucose (11 mM) FMC medium supplemented by different concentrations of pyruvate (0, 0.01, 0.1, 1, 2, 4, 8, 20, 40, and 80 mM).
