Hydrophobicity of A. baumannii strains. Cell surface hydrophobicity was assessed by the affiliation of the bacterial cell to xylene. Strains with a hydrophobic index above 70 % are shown in red, those above 30 % are in purple and those below 30 % are in blue. Those strains where no bar is visible are completely hydrophilic. The ability of each strain to form a pellicle in glass or polypropylene is shown as (+ or -) below the hydrophobic index. Bars indicate the standard deviation of three separate experiments
