Genes associated with the pathway are represented by black arrows, and genes flanking the pathway are represented in gray. Elevated arrows above the upstream regions of selected open reading frames indicate where promoter activity was detected using the β-galactosidase reporter assay. The region upstream of jamQ did not have any detectable promoter activity in the assay.
