- Differentially-expressed (DE) genes are those of which the expression, estimated by qRT-PCR, was statistically different under aposymbiotic (A) and symbiotic (S) conditions (Wilcoxon’s test on expression data, p-values adjusted using FDR’s correction, see details in Figure 3). DE>2 corresponds to the number of DE genes with an aposymbiotic/symbiotic expression ratio that is greater than 2 or smaller than 0.5. The Pi3 strain exhibits a strong ovarian phenotype after Wolbachia removal (no eggs in the ovaries), while the NA strain produces a few eggs that fail to develop normally.
