Genetic structure of PAI II 536 . For the transfer experiments, suicide vector pSG704 which carries the chloramphenicol acetyltransferase (cat) gene, an origin of replication and mobility genes (depicted in the enlarged insert) was stably integrated into a non-coding region of this island (A). Complete transfer of PAI II536 into the transconjugants was confirmed by detection of five regions of PAI II536 by PCR (B).
