Heat-inactivated OMVs display antimicrobial activity. Heat-inactivated OMVs inhibit the growth of S. mutans(A) UA159 strain (B) Clarke strain and (C) OMZ175 strain. Overnight cultures of S. mutans were diluted 1:100 in broth and treated with PBS, 2 µg OMVs, or 2 µg heat-inactivated OMVs in a total volume of 100 µL. OD600 was monitored for up to 12 h.
