OMVs kill S. mutans biofilm and planktonic bacteria in a time- and dose-dependent manner. S. mutans biofilm cells were harvested from (A) three-day biofilms formed on glass slides cultured in BMGS. Planktonic cells of S. mutans were harvested from culture in BHI broth. S. mutans(B) biofilm cells and (C) planktonic cells were treated with 50 or 100 µg/mL OMVs, 800 µg/mL gentamicin or PBS for up to 24 h with cell viability monitored. Cells were adjusted to start from the same CFU. Bacterial cells under different treatments were plated on agar for CFU determination at different time points. The curves were compared using a Chi-squared test, see Methods. (**** p < 0.0001)
