PCR analysis for the presence of clb + E. coli in fecal samples of infants. Amplifications of PCR products from the DNA samples extracted from fecal samples was performed using the primer set described in Online Methods. (a) Results from the fecal samples from infants collected at birth to two to three days after birth. (b) Results from the fecal samples collected one month after birth. Lane M: molecular weight marker; lane N: negative control using pUC19 as a PCR template; lane P: positive control using the gDNA isolated from E. coli-50[11] as a PCR template; lanes 1–51: analysis of the sample from each of the 51 newborn subjects.
