Bacterial growth. The figure illustrates the growth of the 18 E. coli isolates included in the in vitro phenotypic studies in sterile filtered human urine (a) and LB broth (b). Growth in LB was included as a measure on optimal growth conditions and used as basis for comparison with growth in sterile filtered human urine. Growth curves were obtained from a Tecan plate reader in which the optical density was measured at 600 nm every ten minutes for 23 h. Time is given in hours on the x-axis, and the measured optical density on the y-axis. The experiment was performed in triplicate, and the standard deviations are indicated by whiskers
