Isolating non-growing cell subpopulations with ampicillin-induced cell lysing and protein-dilution methods. mCherry positive cells from overnight (24 h) pre-cultures were diluted 100-fold in fresh LB broth without IPTG. Upon reaching the exponential-growth phase (OD600 = 0.25), cells were treated with ampicillin at 10X MIC concentration (60 μg/ml).
