Effects of mutation of lolA on extracellular cellulase (a), mannanase (b), pectinase (c), and protease (d) activities in X. campestris pv. campestris. The extracellular enzyme activity was evaluated using the substrate-supplemented plate assay as described in the Methods section. Xcc17(pRK415): wild type; H27(pRK415): lolA mutant; H27(pRKlolA): complemented strain. The diameter of the colony and hydrolysis zone of each strain was measured after two days of incubation at 28 °C. The ratio of hydrolysis zone size to colony diameter is depicted. Values presented are the mean ± standard deviation (n = 3). Significance was determined using the Student t test (* indicates significance at p < 0.05)
