The placement of the C. burnetii strain detected in this study (represented by sample 173, highlighted in grey) with the known MST genotypes. The analysis was performed using MEGA v.7 software (Kumar et al., 2016 [23]) using the Neighbor-joining method (Maximum Composite Likelihood method) with 1000 replicates. Bootstrap values > 50 are shown. The scale bar represents the number of nucleotide substitutions per site. Host and geographic origin of C. burnetii genotypes are provided, according to open source databases and previous publications (listed in Additional file 1: Table S1).
