Thin-layer chromatography of phospholipids extracted from Pseudomonas aeruginosa grown in the presence of individual polyunsaturated fatty acids. Bacteria were grown to exponential phase (OD ≈ 0.8) in G56 minimal media at 37 °C with or without 300 μM of the indicated fatty acids (linoleic acid [18:2], alpha-linoleic acid [18:3α], gamma-linolenic acid [18:3γ], dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid [20:3], arachidonic acid [20:4], eicosapentaenoic acid [20:5] and docosahexaenoic acid [22:6]) prior to Bligh and Dyer extraction of phospholipids and separation by TLC in the solvent system chloroform/methanol/acetic acid (65:25:10 v/v/v).
