Uptake of PI by L. plantarum grown in mMRS- or mMRST80 during and after treatment at different pressure levels. The cells were grown in mMRS without or with 1 g L−1 Tween 80 and treated at different pressure levels (100/200/300/400/450/500 MPa) at 25 °C for 5 min or with heat (100 °C, 15 min). The cells were stained with 3 μM PI a before or b after pressure/heat treatments. Shown are the means and standard deviations of at least five replicates. Data pairs marked with an asterisk (*) show statistically significant difference (p < 0.05)
