Macroscopic effect observed in auricle infected with the S. pyogenes strain B-50879. Auricles from mice inoculated over a small damage, the squares show a 30x magnification of the indicated area. S. pyogenes could cause exudate, erythema, eschars and delivery of purulent liquid. The PBS-treated control only showed a small erythema all-around the injury previously induced; finally, the damage could heal faster than ones inoculated with the bacterium
