Correlations between physiological traits and characteristics of gut microbiota, whatever the rearing history. The projection vectors on the circle plot reached the maximum score for the four variables, which strongly correlated by pairs. Both pairs of vectors were almost perpendicular, showing the independence of the two variables in each matrix. b Heatmap of the sparse PLS canonical correlation between SGR and HRT with the 11 most abundant OTUs in gut microbiota, each one representing more than 0.5 % of total reads. The analysis was based on three components, taking into account all of the 11 abundance scores and the two physiological traits. The red-brown and deep blue colours indicate strong positive and negative correlations, respectively (correlation coefficient between the two variables ranging from 0.6 to 0.79 in absolute value, see the colour key scale)
