SpxB-dependent PLY release is not due to decreased transcription of the ply gene. Strains AW267 (a), T4R (b), WU2 (c), and their respective ∆spxB mutants were grown to mid-log phase and RNA was isolated and used for cDNA synthesis followed by qRT-PCR.
