PCR diagnostic for the presence or absence of endosymbionts in D. melanogaster strains. Amplification of Wsp and DnaA gene sequences from 7-10 day old flies carrying both Wolbachia and Spiroplasma (W + S+), flies lacking both endosymbionts (W-S-), and flies carrying Wolbachia only (W + S-). The sizes of the PCR products are indicated. Two replicate experiments (different flies) are shown for each D. melanogaster strain. PCR amplification of the constitutively expressed gene RpL32 is used as loading control
