Reduction of mecA mRNA in MRSA and MRSP by anti-mecA PNA. Bacterial cultures were treated with indicated concentrations of anti-mecA PNA, A73, and scrambled PNA, scrA in the absence of oxacillin and grown to early log phase. RNA was extracted and mecA expression was quantified by qPCR, normalized to pta and gyrA for (a) NCTC 13142, and proC and pyk for (b) HH-1. Normalized mRNA values were calculated relative to the untreated control in each experiment, and plotted as mean ± SD of n = 3. *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01
