Fatty acid composition analysis of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from pathogenic and intermediately pathogenic Leptospira species. LPS was extracted from the pathogenic species Leptospira interrogans serovar Copenhageni strain Fiocruz L1-130 and the intermediately pathogenic species Leptospira licerasiae serovar Varillal strain VAR010. LPS fractions were analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) as fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) and trimethyl silyl ether-FAME derivatives of hydroxyl fatty acids: (a) Copenhageni aqueous layer LPS; (b) VAR010 aqueous layer LPS; (c) Copenhageni phenol layer LPS; (d) VAR010 phenol layer LPS
