Comparative electrophoretic profile of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) extracted from pathogenic and intermediately pathogenic Leptospira strains. LPS was extracted from the pathogenic species, Leptospira interrogans serovar Copenhageni strain Fiocruz L1-130, and from the intermediately pathogenic species, Leptospira licerasiae serovar Varillal strain VAR010. LPS was isolated from both aqueous (AQ) and phenol (PH) layers of both species; profiles were determined by running 20 μl of LPS samples in SDS-PAGE followed by a periodic acid-silver staining method to detect LPS. Escherichia coli 055: B5 (E. coli) LPS was used as a standard LPS, and protein ladder (M) was used to localize the approximate the size of the LPS band
