Modulation of cofilin expression affected A. fumigatus internalization. A549 cells were transfected with siRNA control, cofilin-specific siRNA (a, b) an empty vector (control), or pcDL-SRα encoding wild-type cofilin or unphosphorylatable S3A cofilin (c , d). After 36 h, cells were infected with the swollen conidia at an MOI of 10 for 1 h. A. fumigatus internalization was analysed by the nystatin protection assay (a, c). The expression of the indicated protein was detected by western blotting. The densitometric analyses of western blots from three independent experiments are shown (b, d).
