Both E. coli and D. discoideum identity affect vegetative growth of amoeba . Points shows mean plaque diameter four days post-plating for the indicated E. coli x D. discoideum strain combination. Strains are ordered by mean plaque size. E. coli strain identity significantly affects the mean plaque diameters of amoeba clones (χ2 = 6930.2, df = 1, P < 0.001).
