Induction of gabT transcription by GABA and SSA. Bt strains containing a PgabT-lacZ transcriptional fusion were cultured in AOAC medium. At OD600 = 1.0 (A0), GABA and SSA were added at different concentrations. Samples were collected at 1-h intervals for 6 h after induction and β-galactosidase activity was assayed. Panel A, GABA was added to strain HD(PgabT-lacZ) at a final concentration of 0 mM (■), 0.2 mM (), 1 mM () and 5 mM (▲).
