Preliminary results using TIGR annotation of the contigs identified by sequencing indicate that the genome comprised about 6,800 open reading frames (ORFs). The results also indicate the existence of surfactin synthesis related genes as well as the existence of 42 flagella-related genes and several key chemotaxis-related genes including CheA, CheC, CheD and CheW, which are organized in 6 operons. In regard to the SOS response we have identified homology with several key SOS genes such as RecA, LexA, DinB, UvrA and Uvr B.
