(A) qRT-PCR of vraS gene induction in response to subinhibitory concentrations of mersacidin and vancomycin (control). (B) qRT-PCR of vraE gene expression upon mersacidin treatment. The qRT-PCR values represent the mean of at least two independent experiments. Quantitative data are presented in relation to 106 copies of the housekeeping gene gyrB. Fold changes were calculated in relation to the untreated control cells, i. e. transcription levels in the absence of mersacidin.
