Expression of the 19 kDa C-terminus of MSP1 in T. thermophila. Aliquots (extract of 50,000 cells) of a non-transformed wildtype and cells of transformed clones (clones 1–4) that were transformed with pKOIX-MSP119 construct were separated on 15 % SDS-PAGE. The recombinant 19 kDa fragment of MSP1 could be detected in all clones (1–4) with four independent monoclonal antibodies (mAbs 2.2, 7.5, 12.8 and 12.10) all derived against the C-terminus of MSP1 of P. falciparum. No signal could be observed in the wildtype negative control. The monoclonal antibodies were kindly provided by Prof. J. McBride (Edinburgh, UK).
