Nucleotide sequence of the promoter region of empA. The 5'-coding sequence and immediate upstream/promoter sequence of empA is presented. The base-paired sequence indicates the annealed primers empA3W and empA3C (Table 2). The transcriptional start site is indicated by +1, the rpoS-dependent promoter regions are indicated as -10 and -35 with the bases in italics [12], and the lux box-like element [19] is underlined.
