(b) Taxonomic assignment of ciliate V4 SSU rRNA-amplicons. In total, all amplicons could be assigned to 102 different ciliate genera (closest BLAST match in GenBank nr database) and one unclassified. In the legend of the figure we only show the taxa that are represented by at least 20% of all amplicons in at least one of the eight samples. For further details on taxonomic assignments we refer to Additional file 3: Table S1. M = Medee, T = Tyro, Th = Thetis, U = Urania.
