All listed oral lactobacilli reference strains and phylotypes were retrieved from the Human Oral Microbiome Database [11]. The phylogenetic tree was constructed with Leuconostoc lactis as the outgroup using the Tree Builder algorithm of the Ribosomal Data Base Project (http://rdp.cme.msu.edu/index.jsp).
