The growth of the S. aureus 8325-4 wild type is only affected by plectasin (35 μg/ml) and not hemin (4 μM). On the contrary, the 8325-4 hssR mutants do not grow in the presence of hemin, regardless of the presence or absence of plectasin, confirming the heme-sensitive phenotype of hssR mutants.
